It seems like anything we buy now a days asks for a tip. Was it always like this? When did tipping begin? What is customary to tip? 

This documentary will discover the inception of tipping, how it became so common in the US alone, and the potential future of tipping.

The History

Tipping can be dated back to the Roman Era, but became common in Medieval Europe, when wealthy visitors to homes would leave tips for servants who provided good service. 

Tip Migration to US- After the Civil War, the wealthy Americans visited Europe and noticed this custom. They brought the concept back to the states, and the idea spread

The Issue

Today, 43 out of the 50 states paying their tipped employees only $2.13 an hour.

Is this a shortcut for businesses to make money, or is it necessary for the operations to stay afloat?

Solutions?

What about no-tip restaurants? How do those work?

Could we increase the wages of all tipped workers to cover a living wage?

Does society even want to get rid of tipping?
